VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM: Can a new charger install a virus on my laptop?

    Hi all,

My current laptop charger just broke so I need a new one...

My big worry is that the laptop charger I buy will install a virus or something on Windows 10 or on my laptop's motherboard.

    The brand name is 'Targus'.

    Thank you

I forgot to say that this is something similar to what I want to buy:

The only problem i would worry about is that the specification for the universal charger does not match the requirements the laptop and cells needs for a healthy life possibly ending up with a charger that may die early or cause internal buzzing through your mains frequency.

There is NO need to worry about that, it can NOT happen.

I would however, thoroughly check that the specifications of the NEW charger are exactly, or compatible, with the OLD charger.

    I hope this helps.

Just make sure the charger puts out the SAME voltage as your old charger!

"something similar" isn't a good criteria to decide on what to buy.
Exact specifications of the charger that needs to replaced need to be known.

For example, the Targus 90W Universal Laptop Charger might look good for you because it's a 90W charger.
Is the original charger less than 90W and maybe you might think it will last on your laptop longer with better performance?
Although that's a possibility, we cannot tell.

I usually start by checking the laptops make/model and its user manual to see what applicable chargers, part numbers & specifications & ensure which one matches the one you are using as a starter.
If you have a Dell laptop, you could use Dell Laptop Parts | Dell Parts | Dell Laptop Repair | Dell Repair w/o needed the user manual.
Then move on comparing what laptop battery companies have if you want.

Huh? Today’s modern devices have more tech built in to work with charging. It is going to only use enough wattage to charge and from there the batteries act like a UPS if power is disconnected.

I thoroughly agree with Paul Black and Pluginz about checking for compatibility.

ALWAYS check the charger is compatible with the laptop as the wrong charger will kill your battery. No matter the tech built in.

    Good luck.
