Defender is now working, though I didn't download anything. I left the Browser Guard unchecked, but I will check it now.
The best thing to do is to make sure that Defender is upto date with respect to Definitions etc, and then run a FULL Sysyem Scan. If you are unfamiliar with Defender, this will help with that . . .

Also, have a look at the Related Tutorials at the BOTTOM of the above Tutorial [ there are a few ], as they may also be related.

Better still, perform a scan Offline . . .

I hope this helps.

I don't think I'm getting my replies right. Is there a regular Reply in addition to the Quick Reply?
I hit the Thank You for each one of the replies, since each one helped me. I'm going to wait with the Solved check until I've accomplished the removal of Norton. I wish you could help me with getting a reimbursement (renewal date was November), but that's most likely unlikely.

I think that is because you do NOT have enough posts yet. You could always make a note of the members that have helped so you can give them a REP when you are eligible.

hope this helps.

EDIT:-

I have just looked for you and it appears that you have to have 10 posts.

Paul, thank you, will do. You mention an offline scan. Given today's fairly inescapable surveillance, yesterday I tried to find out if there is a way to work in WordPerfect files not connected to the Internet. First question, who controls the "offline" mode in this case, Windows, Firefox, or WordPerfect?

I am slightly concerned about your lack of any reference to the Norton removal tool that was mentioned earlier on.
You must run it, even if you have already uninstalled Norton.

The tool will remove odd remnants that might otherwise come back and bite you in the rse in four years time. That's what happened to me. Four years after removing Norton I found that I had problems copying very large files across my home network. After investigations lasting the best part of a month without any success, I ran the Norton removal tool and the problem was fixed instantly.

All the best,

… an offline scan ...
That's a reference to a particular scanning procedure using Microsoft Defender. See

It's not used very often.

I didn't know WordPerfect still existed but it should work the same with or without any internet connection. Just try it.

Denis, I have now run the Norton Removal tool.
As for wonderful WordPerfect, which I've used since way back when it was Novell DOS, more than 20 years ago, it's still going, albeit a Corel product now. I don't think I would survive being forced to use Word.
It's not related, except for the longevity aspect, but I finally gave up Eudora only last year, though it had been tossed in the trash by Symantec years ago, How I loved it.

When you edit down quotes to remove unnecessary bits, keep both the
at the start and the
at the end. Then the quote will appear correctly, for example
noguru11 said:

which appears when drafting it as
Denis, I have now run the Norton Removal tool.
I am unable to open WPUniverse forum, where I visited yesterday without a problem, before Defender began - "secure connection failed."Other websites are okay.
The updating processes in Defender are extremely complicated. Is there an easy way to get the version, the drivers, and whatever else, to be where they belong?
