Has my e-mail account been compromised?

    Hi,

Something very strange is that I am seeing scam e-mails writing me things that they shouldn't even know. Now I know many people can receive spam e-mails advertising products and services, but this is not what I am talking about.

What I am talking about is, receiving an e-mail where they know, I purchased an item from a vendor(which is not a popular vendor), and then I received an e-mail from a person pretending to be from that vendor, but looking carefully I realized it was not that vendor. So this is telling me, they know I used that vendor, but how? Do they have access to my e-mail?

Is it possible for a hacker, to program a bot to detect, contents of my e-mail?

Yes. Also 3'rd party tracking cookies can reveal a lot of information about purchases and habits. Also, someone could have access to your email account. That happened to my wife. Someone had hacked her facebook account. Every time I changed her FB password, the hacker would change it again. I discovered that the hacker also had access to her email to read the 2FI code. After I locked down the email, I could lockdown FB.

That's quite concerning. Is there a way to verify if another person is accessing my e-mail account?

You can check if your email address has been potentially hacked (read more to determine the significance of a positive report):
(ignore the strange name as provided by tenforums). (You can also check your password).

You should also change the password on the email and enable 2FA if the account allows it.

I checked Attention Required! | Cloudflare, but is the password compromised there the e-mail password, or is it just a website where I created an account using the e-mail I have and a password for that website specifically? Because that might not be such a big deal, because our e-mail password is not going to be the same.

The only way they would know what my e-mail password is, would be if microsoft servers were compromised and not anything else.

Thank you for your reply. Only you know the result of using that site, so I can't comment.

Lists of email addresses and passwords acquired by nefarious people by whatever means are listed and sold on the 'dark web'. That site trawls available sources, allowing people to check.

Recently Roboform, a password manager that's been around for many years, has linked to that site so all the login details you use are checked as you use them, and an indication given. I changed some of mine as a result.

Simple passwords can be found by brute force attacks; if common or similar passwords are used on accounts this makes it easier for the hackers.
