MS Defender "Quick" scan taking 30m+

    I am running first scan on an AMD Athlon 64 3000+ [Orleans, 1C/1T]. 4GB DDR2 800Mhz.

System is useable, but MS Defender is taking quite a long time for a "quick" scan. Maybe it is not getting along that well for uniprocessor cpus.

PS - And it lies to you. It said 3 minutes... LOL.

Usually an antivirus/antimalware program will take longer when the drives are large-capacity, have a lot of data or there's several drives to check, I see that on my main computer that has 2 External USB drives of 4TB each and one Internal SATA 1TB drive. A really time-consuming check is when having issues and doing the deep/full scan.

    Not helpful, I know...

Out of curiosity/fun, I just ran a 'quick scan'...

    16633 files scanned/scan lasted 18 seconds.

Subsequent runs take fewer time. Just about 1 minute and a half.

I had a similar issue with an i7 on laptop with 4GB RAM. First quick scan is somewhat slow. So it must be something related to latest antimalware platform or something.

fwiw, my weekly scans (full and quick) have recently taken longer. Didn't time exact. 500gb hd, 4gb RAM, i3.

As you state, may be the antimalware platform.
