    Using two security suites

I am at the moment running Eset Smart Security on my laptop plus I suppose the Windows Defender. Now I remember from the days I was using Windows 7 that having two security suites on one machine was not a good idea.

However there seems to be a lot of thought that one should have add on suites ie Malwarebytes etc to run alongside the already installed security suite.

So should I have more than two security suites on any one machine at any one time is it really likely that one would disrupt the other installed suite?

Depends on the suites. A lot of folk run Defender and Malwarebytes.

Bitdefender sort of takes over for Defender, ESET probably does too.

Here's what my security settings look like while running Bitdefender AV and Firewall.

In settings, for Virus and Threat Protection, I see this...

And for Firewall and Network Protection (Private in my case), I see this...

You need to check Settings > Update and Security > Windows Security, and see what yours says.

Multiple of the same type is not recommended still. IE: norton antivirus and mcafee antivirus.

One providing a firewall, another providing malware protection, and another providing antivirus are not the same types.

Drawbacks to running multiple of same types are slowdowns, conflicts, and generally not playing nicely together.

It is strongly recommended that you run only one antivirus program at a time. Having more than one antivirus program active in memory uses additional resources and can result in program conflicts and false virus alerts. If you choose to install more than one antivirus program on your computer, then only one of them should be active in memory at a time.

A Security suite contains many elements relating to security, not just AV. So if you you run two of them at the same there will be a good deal of overlap thus they are fighting each other.

However you can install two and switch off all the elements of one and use the second, but the complexities these days are too much with so many elements to each suite.

You can run other security applications with very limited objectives manually e.g. AdwCleaner, or run the Chrome Web Browser cleanup tool.
