Norton to Purchase Avast
NortonLifeLock to Buy Avast for as Much as $8.6 Billion
Seems to be good for the consumer providing there is a free product. Avast may have lost market after the accusation last year of sharing user data with marketers.
Excerpts:
NortonLifeLock Inc. agreed to buy Avast Plc in a deal valued at as much as $8.6 billion, giving the U.S. cybersecurity company access to one of the biggest customer bases in the industry.
Avast’s shares had declined 6.2% this year before the deal talks were first reported last month. The company said at the beginning of the year that plans to transition its customer base to one-year subscriptions would hurt billings growth in the first half, while its adjusted earnings margin would be held back by higher costs to move to the cloud. Avast is due to report its financial results on Wednesday.
NortonLifeLock shares declined about 1% in extended trading after closing at $24.15 in New York. The stock has gained 16% this year.
