Well, this is becoming funny. I unblocked and disabled and whatever, and this time MWB snagged it.

How can I "permanently" disable Windows Defender?-mwb.jpg

I, perhaps unlike OP, was only interested in this disabling operation because I wanted to see whether Disk Cleanup could wipe all of the temp files stored by Windows Defender. When I run DC, it shows (sometimes) something in the neighborhood of 30 MB of files for WD, and after I clean everything up, I find those files untouched; DC reports just what it reported before. The amount of space taken up by those files is trifling, but I was just interested in seeing whether the files could be dumped while WD was sleeping.

I think I'll rest easier tonight , knowing that I had a really challenging time trying to get that executable past my two real-time anti-malware programs.

When I unzip it, Windows Defender grabs it and quarantines it before I can even get to it to run it.

You gotta disable all of the options you can find in Windows Defender. Otherwise it won't let you to execute the program.

I didn't disable anything just allowed it in protection history.
My solution was similar to Fabler2's.

    1. Let Microsoft Defender quarantine "dControl.exe".
    2. Go to Protection History via the command "Explorer WindowsDefender://History"
    3. Find "dControl.exe".
    4. Click on "Actions" --> "Restore"。

It is absolutely understandable for Microsoft Defender to stop anything trying to disable it.

    Hey friends!

I have been trying to disable Windows Defender for 2 days but none of the casual methods on internet works. It just keeps opening up, drives me crazy. I want to close it just because I should be able to do it. What happened to Microsoft? Things were not like that in XP and 7. They turned computers into adult daycare.

If I can't find a proper solution, I'll hope to find a cracked Windows 10 where I can actually be able to control my laptop.

    I tried these methods:
Disabling it on gpedit.msc (it just re-enables itself after restart)
Adding an input on regedit (it deletes itself)
    services.msc is not editable.
    Ultimate Windows Tweaker doesn't work.

How can I permanently disable Windows Defender?
I agree that Windows 10 has turned into adult daycare by not letting users (not even administrators) disable things they deem unnecessary like Defender. Windows 10 however is no match for advanced users. When I had 1903 I tried every suggestion and third party tool, nothing worked. Regedit denied me permission. I defeated this by booting into safe mode, stopping/disabling the defender service, rebooting normally. No more Defender.

There is also Windows 10 Ghost Spectre which has options to install with or without Defender - That's what I am running now (21H1), no Defender and it is way more responsive than stock Windows 10 (all bloat removed so no Candy Crush Saga, Cortana, Find my Phone etc.).

Okay, so I finally got Defender Control accepted by both MWB and WD, but that left me with a WD page FULL of "Protection History" that I couldn't find any way to get rid of.

That led me on a merry chase that brought me back to (surprise!) TenForums, and an old thread in which this works-for-me method is detailed:

    Turn OFF Real-time Protection
    Turn OFF Cloud-delivered Protection
    Go to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Scans\History\Service
Delete the contents in the folder
    Turn ON Real-time Protection
    Turn ON Cloud-delivered Protection

Now check protection History. It's empty.

    Good job!

Now I'm going to try to clean up the detritus in MWB.

    [update]
A breeze. All clear. And I ran DC while WD was sleeping, checked WD, OK, closed and re-opened DC, WD files had gone from 32MB to 1MB. Happy days are here again. (Gee, that sounds like a good line for a song!)

PS: Please do not post your comments about why Windows Defender should be keep opened, or how bigot I am. I am really not interested and I will ignore such comments. Thank you.

Windows Defender has kernel drivers, that prevent the user from disabling Defender in Services.
The easiest way to disable Defender is to disable those drivers with the free program Autoruns.
Simply uncheck the boxes as shown below.

Once these items are disabled in Autoruns, just reboot the computer, then you can disable Defender in Services.

If you ever want to "enable" Defender, just re-check the boxes in Autoruns, then reboot, then re-enable the Services.

I see that your shot is from an XP installation, but I don't know why there's such a huge difference between your SShot and what I see in my Autoruns. Looks to me as though I'd have to uncheck 14 boxes on this PC (10 Pro 21H1).

    Is that right?

My shot is from a Windows 10 installation. My acct name is... XP, that's what you're reading.
For disabling Defender you still need to uncheck the SAME boxes. The rest don't matter.

Thank you, sir. That solution will make it unnecessary for me to fight with WD and MWB to get the Defender Control utility on my other PCs.
