    Windows Security Adware Threat

I do not understand this...I am using Firefox with the STRICT setting to block ads and trackers, and how come this sneaked onto my system?

Should I still consider reinstalling Windows or just leave it since Defender was able to remove it?

UPDATE >> Ok, so looks like it was not coming from Firefox, but coming from MS Edge - I attached another image to see.

The only thing that I am confused about, is as to why this has been detected just now since I just started using Firefox a few days ago. But then again, right before the Full Scan, Defender warned me that I needed to Scan my system. So, in that case, I may have used Edge before this thing sneaked into my system.

And by the way, Edge is also set to level of STRICT under the Privacy and Security page...So I do not get why I got this.

    @win10freak

As long as Defender removed it, you're good to go.

    Thank you.

The Threat entry log is still present even if Defender removed it. And don’t even see a selection to remove the log entry. Is there any way to remove it?

    Sorry for the confusion.

I know that the Adware is removed.

I am referring to the image here. I mean the entire log from the Protection History log event. There is no option to Clear the history log.

There used to be options for deleting the protection history but these no longer work - they don’t for me anyway.
    C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Scans\History\ & delete the Service folder.

    Hi win10freak,

Try out method 2 from this link, it worked for me just now using winver 2004.

Clear Protection History in Windows Defender on Windows 10

The practical feature of this deletion method is that it allows you to save the event log for future reference and saves a link to this saved log in a location of your choice.

    Thanks for the support!

I’m just concerned as to why this managed to sneak in my system even with Firefox and Edge tracking blocking set to STRICT.

I don’t visit shady websites or download anything that seems to be suspicious.

However, this clearly came through Edge as shown in one of my images. Perhaps I didn’t use Firefox at the time since I just switched to using Firefox about a week ago.

Maybe you installed an addon? Ad supported? Or maybe you allowed or never blocked some dodgy push notification?
