    Veracrypt vs Bitlocker Formatting drive?

I have a new drive, it's for storage only, can I simply use quick format with Veracrypt?

Bitlocker has the option to encrypt as you put data on the drive, instead of encrypting the whole drive first, is that not similar to quick format?

Encrypt the entire drive, or to not encrypt the entire drive, that is the question?

    Confused

Not familiar with Veracrypt, but using BitLocker here is the difference between formatting used space only and the entire drive:

The only reason to format the entire drive is if there was previously unencrypted data on the disk and you want to make sure that those areas of the disk get encrypted to ensure that nobody can go in afterward and recover data from those areas.

If you have no previous data on the disk that you are concerned about then there is absolutely no, zero, zip benefit to encrypting the whole drive.
