    Windows Defender Bug

The bug deals with engine version 1.1.18100.5 which could potentially put thousands of files on your hard drive. The corrected engine version seems to be 1.1.18100.6. If desired, the files can be deleted. Here are the details: Windows Defender bug may fill your hard drive with thousands of files - gHacks Tech News

EDIT: The fixed engine version has been released along with a definition update. If you want to check on the size of the files, if you got them -- C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Scans -- hit enter, double click on history folder, double click on store.

Thanks for the warning. I’ll check on that.

I had a ton of the files which I safely deleted. With the corrected engine, only one file showed up so it seems the issue's solved.

I have the updated engine but the Store folder contains 2243 files occupying 9.86MB

Those files are most likely from when you had the previous engine version. I deleted the files, restarted the computer and I just checked the files again -- only three from yesterday and so far nothing today.
