    @Steve108,

    AS @Bree said, I too have never seen it show results, which is a good thing in my opinion.

    I have a wired connection, and just ran it. It scanned just over 53K items, stopped at 90% and rebooted.

    From Start, back to desktop in 4 minutes on my pc.

    @Bree,
    Thanks for the details. Another crappy software from M$$$ that requires hunting through logs to see results vs just waiting for the user to look at the GUI I wish they would refine things like this vs wasting time on icon colors.

    @WXC - thanks for confirming

    Today’s gremlin is that MDO won’t scan and the log file indicates it can’t find the signatures. If I do an in place upgrade back to .631 and run one before the defender platform is updated it has worked.
    Jimbo,

    What does SFC have to say?
    SFC-DISM - TenForumsTutorials
    - Option 3 is the appropriate one
    - If it finds problems then the note at the end of Option 3 warns you to connect to the internet before using its suggested Dism command.
    - If problems remain then post the SFC log extract shown in Option 5. Or just use this after adjusting it for a convenient folder of your choosing in place of my D:\Desktop
    Code:
    system32\findstr.exe /c:"[SR] Cannot repair member file" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log >"D:\Desktop\%ComputerName%-SFCResults-Unrepairables.Log""

    Jimbo,

    Just by way of comparison, I am on
    Windows 10 Home x64 Version 20H2 Build 19042.804
    WD Version 4.18.2102.3

    I just ran WDO and it worked correctly. Its log file indicated that it completed with no errors.

    Added 90 mins later - and I've just seen that WD Version 4.18.2102.4 is available. It should be included the next time you [automatically or manually] check for WD definitions updates.

    Jimbo,

    OK. Part of your description reminded me of an issue from a couple of years ago but SFC also contained evidence of the problem so it is evidently not the same issue.

    Is your WD on Version 4.18.2102.4 yet? Does that make any difference?
    - It should be included the next time you [automatically or manually] check for WD definitions updates.
    - I saw a notification of this 'platform' update only a couple of hours ago and it might take a while to be released everywhere.

    I haven’t gone thru the cbs log, but bottom line is both dism and cbs say no issues found. I’m going to be working on it for awhile so, probably won’t post back for a couple hours. Ty to everyone for the replies.

    Jimbo,

    If SFC says no issues found then I do not think it would be worth your time to look through any logs manually.

    Ok. I give up. Clean install has already begun.

    Why is this black screen making me think something has gone awry. Maybe it’s downloading stuff. A little HDD activity it not much. This was after all the setup questions were completed. I got a black screen with a mouse cursor for more than 30 minutes.

    Oh dear. I assume you have tried rebooting [whilst connected to the internet] already so that Windows update can search for the correct display driver.

    Perhaps there is guidance in Clean Install - TenForumsTutorials
    If not, try asking in that thread.

    I kept these two links but they are quite dated
