    Windows 10 Security

I just bought this laptop. Updated to newest version of Windows 10, version 20H2 etc etc.
I have added Malwarebytes to the laptop, a VPN.
Laptop has Mcafee trial on it. Not a fan of mcafee.
What is a solid anti virus that just works, no drama?
    Thnx in advance,

You already have it on your computer, Windows Defender. You can augment it with Configure Defender as well if you choose.

+2 on this. It took me a long time and a lot of aggravation to learn most third party antivirus cause more problems than they ever solve. No antivirus is perfect and no anti-this, that or the other program will catch or block everything. Windows Defender enhanced with Andy Ful's Configure Defender really is the only protection that is needed nowadays on Windows 10. Even without Configure Defender the built-in Windows Security combined with good common sense and safe browsing/email habits will do a great job.

mcafee is well known to degrade system stability, built in Windows defender is the kind of AV you want - "which just works"

If you don't seriously need VPN get rid of it, having no VPN is better for privacy.

I use VPN because I travel the world.
So, Windows Defender with configure defender and get rid of Mcafee?

    exactly.

I never heard of configure defender but it seems like useful program so why not.
Most of Windows defender "hidden" settings can also be configured trough GPO or registry, it's up to you which one of the 3 options to configure you choose.

Default configuration is enough, additional configuration does little to improve security because these settings give you best result when used in corporate networks, this is called "Advanced threat protection" and is not enabled by default.

On home systems you don't have UI interface.

Do you have a link for this "configure defender"?

    I would certainly uninstall McAfee.

It's here on GitHub: GitHub - AndyFul/ConfigureDefender: Utility for configuring Windows 10 built-in Defender antivirus settings.

    I would certainly uninstall McAfee.
