Re-iteration - My views on A.V software these days

    Hi folks

I think my views on typical Consumer grade Anti Virus software these days is probably well known on these Forums - especially my loathing of Malwarebytes and McAfee (We all called it McAwful or Mc Hideous and it really killed computer systems with its abomniable throttling of computer resources).

Ms 's WD has so vastly improved these days I can't understand why anybody on HOME (Not Networked corporate machines) should be scared of using it.

There's 100% no reason to use these 3rd party products (designed for C20 problems) in C21anymore.

Just understand how Scamming works and protect yourself against that -- no A/V software can do that yet -- maybe in 50 years tha A.I -Artificial Intelligence systems - might be able to offer protection but currently it's not possible so please USE BRAIN.

However this might open a few eyes -- the McAfee owner / designer -- a product much beloved by corporate bosses -- might eventually end up in a jail cell.

OK he was speculating with "BitCoin " but would you really trust your security to these "Dodgy Dealing" characters,

And for the more moral of you -- at least Ms pays its taxes in places it opertates.

    Cheers

John McAfee is not the owner of McAfee. I think he sold years ago and went bonkers. I think Intel owned it for a while but they may have sold it also.

Any AV we install since it's not controlled by any additional software and since their execution (and executables) is well protected from tampering with their processes simply cannot be overlooked.

For this reason it's best to stay with the default AV even if other solutions are slightly better.

A very cautious user may even decide not to use any AV at all and just rely on non elevated Windows account and software certificates which most of us already do and this works well since malware that does privilege escalation, it is as rare as BIOS rootkits.

But it doesn't makes sense for MS Defender since it's part of OS, we gain no security advantage, I mean for users who install unsigned software it is priority to have AV regardless which one they choose, it's better than nothing.

and McAfee should be labeled as PUP because that's what it is.
