How do I get rid of malware - apparently in Chrome.

Malwarebytes indicates that the following pest is in google chrome.
    jbldcomffojmkkjbblhcebeicbncmjpf
There was a second entry, but this has gone when I removed all extensions for google chrome.

I did find the above in the registry and deleted it. It just reappears at will when PC is in use. Has anyone successfuly banished this item, if so would be grateful to hear how
    Thanks in advance

Malwarebytes does quarantine it - then I delete it, however whenever the PC is in use it just arrives again. Any further use of malwarebytes confirms further entries.

OK, then a program on the PC is creating the issue.

Turn off every startup program on the PC and reboot, let`s see if it comes back

Another great way to see if a program is causing the issue is to boot into safe mode, and see if the issue persists.

It's an extension on your Chrome browser .........
    Data\Default\Extensions\CHR Extension: (Ask Web Search) - C:\Users\xxxxxx\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Extensions\jbldcomffojmkkjbblhcebeicbncmjpf

    Uninstall or delete that extension.

Strange name for an extension. I use all of these, never had an issue, or a Pop up @PoloNut, use Jaycee`s advice, if you have any extensions, turn them off, see if the file comes back.

    Hi Jacee
you are correct as to the location - however navigating through to the long extension number - it is not to be found on the list.
    Strange !!
Would it be worthwhile to totally erase Google Chrome - then reinstall (as google is the 'offending area' )
    What do you think?

    PS
I found this extension detailed in the registry - it is easy to delete, but after a restart it re-appears in the registry

Now might be a good time to test drive Chromium-based Edge for a few days.

If you like it, uninstall Chrome and don't look back.

Ask Web Search is a browser hijacker.

If you want to continue trying to remove it, use AdwCleaner, Hitman Pro, and Emsisoft Emergency Kit.

Going forward, I would look into using uBlock Origin on any browser you use.

I would uninstall then reinstall Chrome. When uninstalling Chrome, delete the folder C:\Users\user_name\AppData\Local\Google
