    Bitlocker Recovery Key

I saved the bitlocker recovery key last time to my usb stick. I want to also write it down on paper. I like to know... do i need to write down the identifier as well on paper or is that not necessary?

Or is the bitlocker recovery key all I need to save?

Technically, you only need the recovery key. As the name implies. the identifier simply helps you identify what system or drive the key belongs to.

For example, you may have multiple drives encrypted in a system. If bitlocker needs a recovery key it may ask for the key associated with a particular identifier.

I keep it saved with the identifier on two external drives. The keys for all the drives are saved to a text file from the PC ( Control Panel > Device Encryption) and also downloaded from my Microsoft account. A comprehensive BLRK.txt combining both is created for easy reference..
Note: My Windows 10 Home has Device Encryption - a stripped down Bitlocker.
