    Adware Injector

While on Edmunds.com, attacked by adware injector (image below). I did not click and exited by task manager process. Injector remained on screen, ran WD scan and injector was removed by WD. WD identified as adware injector.

Question: Should WD have blocked the injector before entering my system or should WD or the browser (Chrome Canary*) prevented this is some manner ?

*I know the perils of Canary, just prefer to use as one of my browsers).

Do you have PUA enabled? It is as if something already in your system is "infecting" you browser with ADs.

Enable or Disable Microsoft Defender PUA Protection in Windows 10

P.S.: I recommend ConfigureDefender: Utility for configuring Windows 10 built-in Defender antivirus settings.

    Yes, I have PUA enabled.

Actually, have very few, if any, problems with PUAs. Reqularly scan with AdwCleaner. Never have seen the injector method asking user to click.

Thanks for the Configure Defender link ! (rec'd must spread)

You might also like his other software.

Hard_Configurator: GUI to Manage Software Restriction Policies and harden Windows Home OS

It secures Windows using its own resources and it also deals with scripts, which cause all infections.

It sounds like an issue with the push notifications feature in Chromium based browsers (which includes MS Edge). Please see if the instructions in this Malwarebytes Labs article help or not.

    Very informative article, thanks !

My browsers are set to not allow notifications/ask before notifications, but I may have been guilty of selecting "Allow" on some sites. However, this seems to be an isolated incident because as stated I rarely encounter PUAs and this is a first for unwanted Notifications.
