    windows defender not working

I cannot start windows defender. It say “unexpected error. sorry, we ran into a problem. please try again”.
I tried several workarounds I found in this forum and other forums:

    1. Remove other antiVirus/AntiSpayware programs -> I never had any...
    2. Enable default Administrator account to see if issue exist -> It is the same even for default Administrator account.
    3. Set all registry entries with DisableAntiSpyware / DisableAntiVirus to zero. -> value was already zero (or key was missing)
    4. Try start "Windows Defender Antivirus Service" -> Service dialog is all disabled. start/stop/pause/resume buttons are all disabled. event in default administrator account...
    5. Try to start "Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection Service" -> When clicking the start button, it try to start but prompt an error: "The Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection Service on local computer started and then stopped"
    6. change Local Group Policy for windows defender (both user and computer level) to "Not configured" -> the value was already "Not configured"...
    7. start windows without any startup program -> did not help
    8. start windows in "safe boot" mode -> did not help
    9. start windows after disabling all non-windows services -> did not help
    10. run sfc /scannow -> did not help
    11. scan computer with Malwarebytes -> fond nothing

Hello, the forum asked you to specify your full Windows build number when you wrote your post so we don't have to keep asking for it.

I suggest you perform an in-place upgrade repair install which like any upgrade keeps all progs and data.
    Tutorial available if needed.

You need to use an iso file (or bootable disk) of the same major build as you have now- which I don't know.

All builds are freely downloadable - see relevant tutorial (see Tutorials shown above).

    Thank you for your reply.

As above, try an in-place upgrade repair install. If you already have a 2004 iso file you can use that.

If you're already using build 2004 to what would you be upgrading? Reiterate in-place upgrade repair.

Thank you for you reply. I can't answer for your internet speed, restrictions, location or anything else that may be responsible.

Tutorial: have you looked at this?
