    Persistent Threat Message in Virus & Threat Protection in Windows 10

    Hi,

    I have recently uninstalled CCleaner from my PC.

    Under Current Threats in Virus & Threat Protection, I keep getting the message that there's a threat from App:Piriform_CCleaner.

    I've tried the option to Remove this but even after a re-boot the message remains.

    Can someone please suggest how to resolve this?

    Thanks!

    I "just" downloaded CCleaner. Scanned it on my comp With Bitdefender Internet Security 2020 (paid), and then again at: VirusTotal

    It came up clean at virustotal, (0/67 zero hits on 67 scanning engines).

    So... you got a "false positive" result, or you have NOT disabled a setting that YOUR AV finds offensive. I would re-install CCleaner version 568 (newest), under Options, disable any Scheduling, and under Options > Updates, DISABLE it's "checking for updates" ( you should do that manually), and under Options > Advanced, ONLY checkmark "only delete file in Temp folder older than 24 hours... and "Skip User Account Control warning". [See pic below}

    Then set CCleaner as an exclusion in your antivirus. In other words, tell your AV to ignore CCleaner.

    Then once every 6 months or so... download the newest version, and scan it at Virustotal again, then just install over top of the older version. Rinse and repeat, every 6 months.

    /edit NEVER use CCleaner's "Health Check". THAT is just a disaster waiting to happen.

    @graemea........ Where did you download CCleaner from? It's possible that the site could have a PUP bundled with the app.

    Both CCleaner and MiniTool Partition Wizard are sometimes bundled with other software from the main download site which gives such detections. You can avoid such issues by using the portable version of these programs.

    As I understood, you've uninstalled CCleaner. Is the message about threat pointing at installed App, or installer?

    You could start a new Quick scan, maybe it will clean current threats

    Maybe using Revo to uninstall the remains would help
