"App & browser control" is Off warning

Yesterday I upgraded to v2004 on both my desktop PC and my DELL laptop. In both cases things seemed to go well but I now see a "Windows Security" warning that was not there in the previous version v1909. See picture: -


If it was important I reckon Microsoft should have turned it on by default but maybe this is a Windows 10 bug? I suppose if I do not turn it on then MS warning will remain in place until I turn it on but will it cause problems if I do? I suppose it will be easy to turn it off again. Has anyone else had this with v2004?

I should add that on both devices I have Norton Security installed and is showing as 'On' including firewall.

If microsoft went an willy nilly changed security settings without your knowledge, they would have worse problems...

Alerting you to it is the correct way to go about it.

I am a freelance network administrator.......this setting is *constantly* turning itself off on hundreds of Windows 10 v2004 computers that I manage. If I manually turn it back on, it will soon be turned off again. I am not sure when it turns itself back off again (if after a restart, or log-off, or whatever). I am just here to say that the OP is not alone, and this issue is occurring super-frequently, on *many* PCs, and therefore I am really surprised that I can't find much around the Internet about this issue (besides this thread)!

Can you check and see which protections setting is turn off?

Yes, had the same. Just turn back on.

As the OP I forgot to re-visit this thread in order to update it. Bad form, so here is the update: -
I clicked on the "Dismiss" link and everything was OK and the "App & browser control" is showing "No actions needed" 2 1/2 months later so all sorted.

I am still seeing this on around 50% of the PCs I work on. Why haven't Microsoft solved it yet ?

I think the 'dismiss' only results in the exclamation mark not to show up again. But maybe the items behind them are not enabled, viz.
Block apps
Block downloads

That again, it looks like these items are showing up, or not showing up, to depend on the Windows version used.

19042.662 Local account: these items show up
19042.662 Outlook account: they don't show up

But it could also be that 19042.662 Outlook account, there is still an exclamation mark, even though I wouldn't know what 'actions' I should take, as all items are enabled...
