hi all so i have McAfee from Tmobile insurance when i log into my account it , also says i can use on a PC as well. not sure what S mode is i have a laptop but its not touch screen and has win 10 pro 64 bit on it. but just wondering how good is it these days i use on my phone but never have on a PC . what advantages would it have over win 10 defender and MalwareBytes pro? if any let me know your thoughts on this thanks all.

It's ranked 6th compared to Defender at 16th. You should view other comparisons too.

This is only one view: there are threads here commenting on Defender vs others which you can find and read, concluding Defender is good enough.

looks like McAfee may be a good choice will it play well with Malwarebytes pro though ?? beings i allready pay for it from my insurance heck why not unless others have some other thoughts , laptop came with it originally but i removed it as it was expired lol, totally forgot i get it with Tmo lol.

Malwarebytes does not typically interfere with other programs.

As of 3 or 4 years ago, McAfee was widely frowned on because it was invasive and difficult to remove from a PC---while being somewhere around average in protection.

I don't know if that has changed, but the rule of thumb on these forums is Defender---plus maybe Malwarebytes free or paid.

You can easily find all kinds of complaining about the validity of the anti-virus testing sites. Lots of fan-boys of one stripe or another, all saying "do what I do". As you would expect.

I would not. I would just use Defender. If you do decide to use it...

I would recommend creating exclusions between Malwarebytes and Your AV to help prevent any possible conflicts or performance issues. Please add the items listed in this support article to Your AV 's allow list(s)/trust list(s)/exclusion list(s) particularly for any of its real-time protection components and likewise add Your AV 's program folder(s) (likely located under C:\Program Files and/or C:\Program Files (x86)) to Malwarebytes' Allow List using the method described under the Allow a file or folder section of this support article and do the same for its primary data folder which is likely located under C:\ProgramData (you may need to show hidden files and folders to see it).

i think i will stick with defender and malwarebytes like i did on my main old pc that died. do i need to add exclusions for defender and such i don't think i ever did before but maybe different now.

No, just let it work for you, unless you have a real problem with it.

My two new HP computers came with McAfee.......I got rid of it straight away!

All you really need -

Windows Defender (AV and Firewall built into W10) - Properly configured. -> Turn On or Off Windows Defender Antivirus in Windows 10
Malwarebytes Free -> https://www.malwarebytes.com/mwb-download/

P.S. Use the McAfee uninstall tool (MCPR) to clean traces of that program before using Defender -

Be wary of web sites that purport to offer recommendations - many of them have vested interests in the "top" programs they mention.

av-comparatives.org ... owner (samirnet) registered in India. Scant details provided to/by domain name registrar (Suspicious), samirnet is a training and development organisation, can't see anything about software testing on their site, so probably just copied the results shown in av-comparitives.org from some other site.
