How do you guys get rid of those nuisance Fake Virus Alert Popups with the Edge browser?
Usually you can just press Ctrl + Alt + Delete, then select Task Manager and end the Edge process. But Ive noticed that when you start Edge up again from the taskbar it automatically opens up the last page that was previously opened. If that was one of those Scareware Fake Virus popup alerts, then Im presuming you would be stuck in a loop as it would just open the Fake Virus Alert popup page up again that you are trying to get rid of. I have Edge set to Open Microsoft Edge with the Start Page but in this case that makes no difference whatsoever. As a test Ive just tried closing down a webpage using Task Manager to close Edge with End Task. I rebooted the PC and even then Edge opens up the webpage that was previously force closed using Task Manager
What always works for me is first you need to unhook yourself from the internet then do all the shut down stuff and reboot then when it comes back up then hook back up to the internet and all should be fine.

Not sure if this is what you want, but if you go to "Settings then On Startup" you can change it from "Continue where you left off" to "Open a new tab". That should prevent you from starting at the same popup. I have been using Edge for a couple of months and have not seen 1 popup yet, fingers crossed. Hope this helps.

Hi mate. I don't have a Startup option in Edge settings so Im guessing that you're using the new Edge Chromium. Im happy to just use the standard Edge browser at the moment although I will be going automatically to Edge Chromium when the new 2004 feature update is released at the end of the month

Even though you may use CTRL + ALT + Del to get to the Task Manager and stop the Browser process you should also clear temporary/cached Browser files. An essential part of the process which you have missed out, applies to both Edge and IE 11.

This was mentioned in post #10.
Your original comments in #1, #3, #7, #9, #12 and are not quite right.
Edge does not auto-load the last page with suitable settings.

In the Old Edge are Settings > Open Microsoft Edge with... a choice of a specific page/pages, New Tab page, Start page.
I set the specific page & New Tabs* to "about:blank" thus that is how Edge starts. I use that for every Web Browser.
Part of the reason is to stop these fake virus scan popups and other popups starting.
I have not had any of those for many years on any Browser IE 11, Edge, Chrome.

You cannot close these fake virus scan popups with the top right X on Browser Tabs or Windows these become locked and don't work.

You are correct, never use anything within the Pop-up itself and exit to the Task Manager, you are just missing the extra step of clearing temporary/cached Browser files.

    * They seem to have changed that recently to insist on Bing search engine.

Should you clear temporary/cached browser files before closing the Task Manager down or afterwards when starting up Edge again?

I have mine set all to their defaults. What about opening Edge with a Specific page of my choice other than the default Start page which is MSN.com and just leave my Home Page set as the Start page default MSN.com.
Open new tabs starts with Top sites and Suggested content by default. There is an option to open with a blank page...is that more or less the same as about:blank?
