I use Norton Security Suite, which I get as part of my Comcast internet service. I just got an email from Broadcom telling me that I am now a Broadcom customer, and that I need to set up an account on their website. Broadcom bought Symantec's ENTERPRISE security business. According to this press release, Symantec is keeping their consumer security business. Broadcom buys Symantec's enterprise security portfolio for $10.7 billion | ZDNet

Let's see, Comcast is a company and Broadcom bought the Enterprise or Company-directed portion of Symantec?

Because I am a long-term customer of Norton Security Suite and Comcast has been making this available for free now. I also use the premium version of MalwareBytes.

Has either one detected and/or quarantined a virus or other "bad" program?

Were you using Norton paid-for before going with the Comcast offering? I quit using Norton shortly after Symantec bought it and a few other programs that didn't last long.

Yes. Malwarebytes has stopped me from opening many websites with security issues. Norton has detected malware in utility downloads a number of times.

Yes, I practice "safe computing." That's why I asked this question. But I know that not all websites are adequately protected, and are sometimes hosting "drive by" downloads of malware.

WD can protect you against drive-by attacks. Even Windows 7 MSSE did that.

I forgot to mention that last week I got an email telling me that my account woudl be switched over to Broadcom and that I would be getting another email a few days later.
So I ended up calling Broadcom support and after a looong wait, I got someone on the phone who said, "Not us. We didn't send that email. Better check with Norton Lifelock," and they even gave me a phone number. After another looooong wait, I got someone from Norton who said, "Huh, we don't know anything about any such emails." And they asked me for my email address and gave me a case number.

So I'm convinced that there are some very smart cybercrooks out there with this two-part phish. The email I got today looked totally real, except for this line:
