I tried to update my BIOS as suggested by Dell but it kept failing. Here is their reply:
We received a support assist request reporting that your computer is unable to update the latest version of System Bios.
We regret for the inconvenience caused to you.

We request you to perform the below steps

Click the bottom-left Start button to open the Start Menu, type control panel in the search box and select Control Panel in the results

Click on Programs & features, look for below applications, right click on each application and uninstall it

Dell update - support assist update plug in
    Dell update

Once you uninstall the above applications restart the computer post which install the Bios by click on the below link manually

    https://www.dell.com/support/home/us...n-3471-desktop

I followed this and it instructed me to turn off encryption before running the update, so I did.
I did to remember how to get back to the screen where I turned it off.
I chatted with Dell and the rep said it was better to leave it off.
It was on before and it seems desirable to have on, what should I do?
I do not know my recovery key. How do I find it?
    Thank you.

    Hello mlpilger,

Device encryption helps protect your data, and it's available on a wide range of Windows devices. If you turn on device encryption, the data on your device can only be accessed by people who've been authorized.

It depends on you if you would like to turn back on Device Encryption or not, but it will help protect your data as mentioned above if needed by you.

How to Turn On or Off Device Encryption in Windows 10

You will only need the BitLocker recovery key if Device Encryption is turned on and you are unable to unlock it at startup as usual.

If you do turn on Device Encryption, be sure to back up the BitLocker recovery key afterwards. I would recommend to at least back up to your Microsoft account if you sign in to Windows 10 with it.

    Hi @mlpilger

The Standard BitLocker encryption in Windows 10 is the “full” device encryption with management controls. The Device encryption is a simplified encryption with no management controls. It also can't encrypt removable disks.

The following screenshots are specific to Device Encryption.

The recovery keys are also automatically saved to your Microsoft Account (MSA) when the device is encrypted and can be retrieved from https://account.microsoft.com/devices/recoverykey
