Remnants of AVG and Avast left after uninstalll.

I had been trying out Avast and AVG internet security packages but decided to go with another package.
However after running their uninstalls and both Avastclear and AVGclear there are still items related to these products in the registry and taskbar settings.

Is there any way to remove these?

Yup, not uncommon for these to leave traces behind.

    1) Run ccleaner and/or WiseDiskCleaner (using default installation settings)
    or
    2) Re-install, and then use a more thorough uninstaller like Geek or RevoUninstaller (freeware version)

    Thank you idgat and Jacee.
    I always use Revo.
When it didn't remove everything I then tried AVCLEAR and ASWCLEAR, followed by CCLEANER.
    But all to no avail.

Sometimes you have to use the developers own tools in order to fully remove their apps

Try Geek Uninstaller. IMO Revo Uninstaller Free has been failing to remove all remnants for a while.

    Hope this helps...

Did you try to manually remove them from the Registry and Taskbar ? (and restart)

Sometimes in the past, I have found it necessary to reinstall a program and then uninstall using the appropriate uninstaller.

Don't use that for antivirus/ security software. Use the dedicated removal tools.

    Also you can try:

Reset Notification Area Icons in Windows 10

It should get rid of those entries. It can take a while. Wait for the prompt to reboot. Don't be tempted to close the window.

You have AVG leftovers. Try the second link from Jacee: AVG clear

If this won't help. reinstall and repeat the process

Thanks to Callender for reminding me of the Reset option.
That cleared up the issue with the icons.

I guess for the registry I will need to install and uninstall.
However, Windows being Windows, I'll probably do a reset or reinstall of the system at some point in the future, so the registry can wait until then.

    Thanks to all who responded.
