No doubt. Vendors do this a lot, and it's a changing landscape, a moving target. We could make a list a mile long of ones we know about.

But fact remains, I can't get Defender to do what you said it did for you. So, done with it here.

Thanks for alerting others to a possibility. It may prevent someone from having Avast or Yahoo Toolbar, or other garbage installed because they were not careful and went too fast, click-click-click, thru the process.

    This:

Enable or Disable Windows Defender PUA Protection in Windows 10

looks totally different in my Security Center, option #1, the GUI.

I'm not getting MiniTool blocked at all, Firefox or Edge or any other browser. All my App and Browser Controls are set to "Warn". Set them to "Block", still did not stop it.

    Something is different.
My Security Centre page looks different too - I left a comment in the tutorial. I had been using the Powershell command anyway.

As a matter of interest I'm also getting the download blocked. Insider build 19582 and have the setting showing in Defender.

After faffing about blocking and unblocking in Defender, got it installed and working, and the 'action needed' tip on the Defender's icon in the notification area removed. Set back to blocking downloads and apps. A few boxes to untick during minitool installation, though, especially this one -

I'm glad I have Mini Tool already installed (several years ago) before all the crapware. Sort of like CCleaner is now.

It's the installer that Defender's PUA detection objects to, not the tool itself. There is a portable version that doesn't have an installer, Defender gives that a clean bill of health.
