I have now joined the ranks of those getting the item exclusion issue

Thanks, my 'misery' now - less lonely.

I am finding the most recent chatter here some what reassuring that it's a Windows Defender Platform bug that they've yet to get to the bottom of.

Now that this latest platform seems to be reaching more people via Windows Update (and it's finally in the MS Update Catalog), the item exclusion message should become visible to more people and hopefully give MS a kick-in-the-rear to fix it. Of course there's a caveat -- not everyone with 4.18.2003.6 is getting the exclusion notification.

I've always seen that exclusion message ever since i started using Defender, but i also do have exclusions as required for my one game to function properly--Secondlife, so nothing new to me at all unforuately.

Not sure if i seen on the other machines in household without exclusions, think just 1 machine doesn't have any, Gaming Desktop and Laptop due for Secondlife game.

    I'll check other one tomorrow

Depending on how elaborate these game exclusions are, and which might be masking this bogus exclusion message issue, you could, as a test, turn them off long enough to run a Manual Quick scan and see if this exclusions issue appears then turn them back on.

    - on second thought -

This might generate some quarantined files during the Quick Scan, making it perhaps more trouble than it's worth.

And of course this issue apparently needs a Defender Platform of 4.18.2003.4-0 or greater, which not everyone has been updated to yet it seems. You'd mentioned 3 days ago about still being on 4.18.2001.10, but I'm guessing this has recently changed.

I get an 8DDD0010 error when trying to download this antimalware platform from Update Catalog. Maybe they are updating.

    "%ProgramFiles%\Windows Defender\MpCmdRun.exe" "-SignatureUpdate"
The above cannot install 4.18.2001.10 at my end.
