Windows Defender, it kept deleting files, which I knew to be safe, so disabled everything about it I could find.then I began the search for a replacement.
To be honest, you need to question more thoroughly what could be happening here.

If this "deletion of files" was a common occurrence, we would have heard about this a lot more, but we haven't. That implies something specific to your system, and more specifically these files that you say are safe.

What are these files? How do you know that they are safe?

You seem to have had issues installing various anti-virus software before....cant install any antivirus....it sounds to me like there are deeper issues with your system.

I've found Defender very reliable on several PCs. Perhaps you have problem with your PC requiring a repair or clean install?

Thanks, yes I plan to do a W10 refresh, all I lose apparently is custom fonts and icons......but will make a Macrium reflect image first, just in case....if that refreshes all the W10 files, maybe I can try to install one of the free AVs again. But will get defender up and and running again with plenty of exceptions.....just wish it could warn me before deleting files, but I understand it’s possible to recover files that defender deletes, then can add an exception for them..

thanks for all the advice and help...

on a personal note, if all the annual payments throughout the world to various AV programs were instead paid to cancer research, who knows how much closer we would be to finding a cure. Seems such a waste of money, just because of a few malicious persons wanting to infect our PCs or data mine them. Perhaps if everyone used Windows Defender instead and donated the annual AV fee to cancer research IMO

This right here. The user is definitely infected. If avast and panda cant install, something is definitely wrong here.

Download the free version of malwarebytes and run a scan, Remove anything found.

    Thanks

i did a W10 Upgrade, which worked well, but didn’t fix defender, for some reason....

Having tried so many ideas to Enable Defender, I tried deleting two registry keys as detailed
    https://www.winhelponline.com/blog/windows-defender-disabled-real-time-protection-virus/

and it WORKED Defender now working perfectly...

    Thanks for all the help

not even going to try a 3rd party AV, have added exclusions to defender, so I am happy with that, have installed Spybot as this is Malware detection only and hasn’t upset defender

P.S. Malwarebytes didnt find anything wrong
