    Schedule Defender Scans


    No issue running at demand quick scans via Settings >Windows security>virus and threats >select quick scan . OK.
    Went to Task scheduler > windows defender to sequence a daily scheduled scan as per Brinks Tutorial and found this .

    Proceeded to insert new scheduled scan >start date >time .Clicked ok
    Why has task scheduler shown all four previous scheduled tasks .Ready -No last runtime 30-11-99 12am (0x41303) No history
    I was under the impression ,that with windows defender it was set up to run as auto each day and then on demand from user ,similiar to how various open market anti virus programs.

    With TS, as with many Windows components, you need to drag column dividers around to see the contents of many columns. In this case, nobody can see the names of the tasks you are referring to.

    These are the other tasks you probably have in TS, TS library, Microsoft, Windows, Windows defender. But I'm just guessing since I cannot see the names in yours.

    You can get some information from the task definition, History tab as long as you have set Enable all tasks history [on the right-hand side of TS]. And you can search online for that error code if the particular task involved is of concern. In this case, you will probably find that the error code merely means that the task has never been run.

    It is entirely possible that Windows defender triggers the scan by using a different TS task or it might run the scan without any reference to Task scheduler. Just as I could run a scan using
    1 A task I've created that's along the lines of what you are trying to do but I have saved my task in TS, TS library rather than in any subfolder, or
    2 A command line or batch file calling up the scan using MpCmdRun.exe directly.

There does not seem to be a way to schedule an automatic daily scan with Windows Defender. I got a action center notification to run a Defender scan. Is that something I can expect regularly? Having to do a regular manual scan will be a pain.
