    Windows 10 popup

Getting advertising popups that look like windows 10 alerts in lower right corner. These say your norton antivirus or trend antivirus or even mcafee antivirus has expired guess when today. However my customer has NONE of thes installed. There is no x box to x out, just the windows 10 arrow to click then alert goes away. Have started malware bytes running. Quick scan of customer computer shows 0 found. Customer appears to have enabled start screen. Pop ups started after this was turned on. Are these pop ups in relation to this? She is on a all in one, but uses keyboard and mouse. Did have classic shell loaded, removed and windows jey quit working. Reinstalked and windows key back to working.

I would say this is a phishing scam. We have gotten several emails stating our Netflix, Hulu, etc. subscription is expiring on that particular date, even though the actual date is something completely different. Looking at the email source code, these have always originated somewhere in Asia. I’d bet your customer’s pop ups are internet browser related. Possibly a third party pixel element planting the popup coding in the system. You might also try scanning the offending system with additional AV programs. I have Norton360 subscription service running all the time and have Malwarebytes, Spybot Search & Destroy, and MSERT on hand for backup if concerned about some malware issue.

It sounds like you have a site abusing the push notifications feature in your browser (most likely Chrome or some other browser based on Chromium I'm guessing). You can learn more about this at the links below:

The instructions at the bottom of the second link above should help you to get rid of them

I agree with Porthos. Malwarebytes will get rid of your browser "hitch-hikers".

Agreed. I find the fact that windows 10 allows notifications in the action center from the browser to be very easily misleading and dangerous. It was not a good idea to let notifications from browsers or any non UWP app to show notifications in the action center, as it is a trusted source of notifications from windows. Lots of easily faked and misleading notifications can be shown through there.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone someday faked a purchase windows 10 feature update notification that appeared it was from windows update tricking people into paying money to get a new version of windows 10.
