Mcafee causing win 10 upgrade to stop.

I was installing win10 upgrade from Win8 and was told Mcafee was incompatible. Uninstalled Mcafee via Revo uninstaller. Rebooted, started upgrade, but same problem. Discovered Mcafee was running via task manager, although no longer installed. I assume it is running online, as it wthe upgrade still tells me to uninstall Mcafee before it will continue. Task Manager sees Mcafee but cannot end the task. HOW DO I STOP IT FROM RUNNING?

Third-party AVs can be notoriously difficult to remove. That's why each one provides a custom removal tool....

If the standard Windows removal method fails, go to Step 2.
Step 2: Download and run the McAfee Consumer Product Removal tool (MCPR)

BTW, the McAfee site seems very slow today (server problems?). You may see...
    Failure of server APACHE bridge:

Internal Server failure, APACHE plugin. Cannot continue.

If so. it's also available here:

As Bree commented it's best to use the proprietary AV uninstall tool.
In case there are any other upgrade problems run setupdiag and post a share link (one drive, drop box, or google drive) into the thread:

McAfee is notorious regarding uninstall. They leave junk like Scheduled Tasks, etc. behind. Use their tool and say "Bye-bye". Reboot > Update. First thing I did with my new laptop.

If the above advice to use McAfee's removal tool fails, and I doubt it will, try searching the registry for any leftovers of the product. I've had third party apps leave things behind to reinstall themselves or block reuse of freebees.
