    AVG Free Problems

Hi all. Just upgraded to Edge and I've reinstalled all of my previous antivirus. All seem to be working well (Malwarebytes and Spybot) except for AVG Free. For some reason whenever I double click on the icon I get the blue spinning circle to show that it's "thinking about it", but my control console doesn't pop up so I can do scans and update it. Any clues what's stopping it?

If it is still spinning 1 hour later, I recommend AVG uninstall's repair or modify, hopefully that should fix it. Also, what functions did you install? Maybe start with AV function only, after a week, add another function if needed.

I recommend you get rid of AVG Free and use Windows Defender.

I believe AVG is now owned by Avast and that they (Avast) are 'in trouble' (again) for selling-on users data that they gather from telemetry so, like eLPuSHer says, uninstall AVG and use another AV instead. See Avast shuts down Jumpshot - gHacks Tech News . As well as Windows Defender I believe that BitDefender is also good when you read reviews.

After doing that run BleachBit to clear out your system.

I agree. Please consider Windows Defender. It's overall testing scores have been excellent. You can harden WD by using ConfigureDefender, a simple GUI to easily take full advantage of its advanced settings & features.

You may find it here GitHub - AndyFul/ConfigureDefender: Utility for configuring Windows 10 built-in Defender antivirus settings.

Another vote for Defender here, it's all I use.

What everyone else has said.....AVG was a great piece of software around 2004/5, but things have changed drastically since then, and it looks like Avast has fallen from grace too.

    Stick with Windows Defender.

Just Switched recently all systems here to Defender, and Kept Malwarebytes Free as secondary manual scan. All gonna use now, after using Avast Free for the previous 10 years, glad i switched them over on my last clean install of System, as well on Laptop and Moms PC when i replaced her hard drive
