Malwarebytes as main Antivirus

In addition, not mandatory, but recommended to add each product to the other's exclusion list. Not hard to do. That reduces/eliminates any cross-checking. I have both running, MBAM not registered, and all the exclusions in place.

Actually that allows both to run fully not just peridiacly.

There is no conclusive proof registering prevents Windows Defender from operating. In my present PC both seem to be running ( with Malwarebytes Premium registered with Windows.Security)

No, I did not take it that way.
Many on other forums other Malwarebytes(and a few there as well) like to debate(nice way of saying argue) what I say about the program and do not believe I know anything about how the program operates.
I have used and sold Malwarebytes from the beginning. There are a few of us who do not work for the company that hold the "title" of Trusted Advisors on the MB forums.
I do not usually post much over here compared to what I do over there and on one other computer technician only forum.
Since I support Windows 10 and Malwarebytes for a living, I figure I should spend some time here on the best Windows 10 forum around.

There are also a few very vocal members here who obviously have an issue with Malwarebytes in general so I generally avoid those topics.

Thank you for redirecting me to the Malwarebytes Forum.

1.Malwarebytes Premium version - Lifetime Subscription:



2. Malwarebytes set to always register in the Windows Security Center and also to launch in the background when Windows starts up



3. No evidence that it has shutdown Windows Defender. Windows Defender still remains the King. No intimation window that it will shut down and run periodic scan only if asked to do so.



4. Settings > Security Provider page still says that Windows Defender antivirus is turned on. No evidence that it has passed the mantle on to Malwarebytes.



5. System Tray icons: Malwarebytes running in the background. Windows Security Icon green tick mark indicating no conflicts.

Observation: Malwarebytes hasn't shut down Windows Defender.Both Windows Defender and Malwarebytes are running concurrently/side by side with Windows Defender Antivirus being the Primary.

( Is it a bug as mentioned by boombastik in his post #17 ? "This is a bug that after a restart malware bytes dont always register in windows security and as a result it does not disable Defender" )

Whatever both are running concurrently/side by side and I am happy .

@jumanji If it works for you then great. It varies on installation path.

With any new install Malwarebytes 4.0’s new default behavior is to register in Windows Defender Security Center (also known as Windows Security Center, Windows Action Center) as a primary line of defense. Due to Microsoft’s implementation of Windows Defender Security Center, this means that Windows Defender will disable itself as a result (depending on your operating system). Though we do not prevent you from running traditional anti-virus with Malwarebytes, we recommend that you keep Malwarebytes registered as your primary security to get the most comprehensive protection against threats.

If you are upgrading from Malwarebytes 3.x, then the behavior is a little different. Your current Windows Security Center registration information for Malwarebytes 3.x will carry over. For example, if you have Malwarebytes 3.x registered in Windows Security Center, then that is what you will see with 4.0. If instead, Malwarebytes 3.x is not registered in Windows Security Center, then it will not register on upgrade to Malwarebytes 4.x and will instead remain in compatibility mode unless you change this in Malwarebytes 4.0’s Settings.

Hi @Porthos,

I now found out why Malwarebytes is not registering as the AV in Security Center.

McAfee Livesafe came installed in my Dell Inspiron 22-3280. I had uninstalled it. I even ran the McAfee's Consumer Product Removal Tool which said it has been completely removed.

I tried to find out whether there are any registry keys still linked to McAfee. Found out that it is still registered as the Av Provider. Unless I delete the key Malwarebytes may not register as the Av provider.

Now Windows Defender and Malwarebytes are running independently which I prefer. I am therefore in a dilemma whether I should delete the key that says McAfee is the registered AV or keep it as it is allowing WD and MB run independantly.

That key however cannot be deleted even as an Administrator.

I use MBM as my main AV on my PC i use for work and home, it's been effective for me.
