    Windows 10 - Dangerous behavior with personal files


    Yesterday I've the first time installed Windows 10 as upgrade to Windows 7 and I have already the firt problems.
    All seems something strange and complicate compared with the older Wins and Linux. ... And I generally use Windows very rarely!

    But now to the real item:
    During my system exploration I noticed a strange folder in File explorer with my housemate's name. Actually I get internet through his router via WiFi. I opened this folder and I get really access to all his data!
    Obviously I informed him about but I'm now worried about my data.
    Is it possible, that Windows 10 give free the data saved of hard disks and other drives?

    One would assume he has shared that folder and thats why you are seeing it were exactly did it show up?

    Do you perhaps mean the folder/files were on his PC, and you were seeing them on that PC because your two PCs have networking configured? (If my other PC was on you would see its name with Thinkpad t440s ...)

    If that's how you saw it, then it would be shared by your friend as Samuria said for you to be able to see it.

    I recently noticed that other users' folders were visible under Network when trying to access a deliberately shared folder. I cannot now find the link, but looking into this led me to discover that turning on public folder sharing had the effect (on some vns of W10, maybe?) of exposing users to each other. I have since abandoned getting W10 to reliably show other networked computers, and now use named shares, so can no longer easily reproduce the issue. If I can find the link I will come back.

    It may be a historic blunder that has since been fixed, but leaving some users with compromised 'share' settings.

    update: The original link was this which in turn led to this. That was W7, but I found the results in my W10 PC, which has never seen W7.
