    Malwarebytes Prevents Me from Disabling It - "Error 5 Access Denied"

    I got the free version of malwarebytes installed. When i go to services to disable it, I get a popup says "Error 5: access denied." Is this normal? If not what should I do about it?

    You can do it from the tray icon too. R-click and un-check any protection modules or 'Quit'

    You can use scanners, that do not run needlessly in the background.

    @yahanna

    This may be what you need. If the setting is unavailable, it's not in the Free version.

    And, the Free version does not have Real Time Protection, so it has no scanner running all the time needlessly in the background or anywhere. It is on demand. The service is used only when active...you start a scan. There really is no need to disable it.

    IMO -

    The free version is good enough. when combined with a quality AV/FW.

    Exactly. If it is the tray icon in the free you want to get rid of Right-click and uncheck run at startup. Do not mess with the actual service.

    Thought that looked familiar. A quote with no quote. Had to look twice!
