Secure Boot To be Or Not

I'm looking for opinions only. Somebody (which I trust), gave me some files that help me with a project. In the remarks of said piece, it said that I should boot from a USB stick of mine after I loaded the files on to. I did, ran the stick and the computer stop dead in it tracks. I through about it, and found a key to the problem was that my secure boot was enable. Now this computer that I"m doing on this on is a Z220 Workstation (about 7 years old), and from HP. So after I disabled secure boot and ran the stick again, my project worked :). I was happy, and then the mind started to think about what I had done. I did some research on "secure boot", and it's sort of a layer of protection for the computer. From other posters, they have disable there's. So my question is should I have my PC's secure boot "enable" or "disable"?

Whether to leave secure boot on or off all depends on what you want to boot from. I keep it turned on unless I am going to boot from a KNOWN source that does not support it. Then I turn it off to boot that. Then back on again when I am done.

Another option is to boot such items in a Virtual Machine. But, if it isn't an ISO file booting from, then you still need to plug the questionable USB flash drive directly into the computer and expose it to the system.

The idea behind secure boot is no malware or virus can run at boot as it would stop it dead it's your choice if you want to take the risk. Virtual PC is best option and virtual box is free
