    SuperAntiSpyware

I started using SUPER AntiSpyware back when I was still on Windows 7. I am not fond of tracking cookies and wanted to intercept any malware that came my way. I also run AVG.

I am not a Internet maniac but each week SAS would find and remove roughly 200 cookies. Nothing else.

Both SAS and AVG survived the upgrade to W10. But after the upgrade, suddenly SAS was only finding 25-40 every week, despite the fact that I hadn't changed my browsing habits much, if at all--TenForums being the exception. Simultaneously, my other Win 7 computer...which sees many if not all of the same sites...was still finding 200+.

Is there an obvious reason for this? Is Windows Defender (which runs sort of in the background alongside AVG) intercepting some of these?

Or do i just need a new antispyware / anti-PUP / antimalware app?

    Hi DWFII -

Obviously, you had installed AVG and SAS again after going to W10.

You have to make a choice, Windows Defender (preferred) or AVG - not both.
I suggest cleanly uninstalling AVG, then reboot.

    See here -

How to completely uninstall AVG antivirus with AVG Clear & AVG Remover

You can use SAS (free) and MBAM (free or paid) alongside Windows Defender.

    What browser do you use?

I have found that in the last few months SAS has had a huge reduction in the number of hits. When I first started my job (which entails visiting some 300+ sites a week) I would regularly get hits in the 100s. Once I got one result that was over 700 hits and crashed the program. But lately its like 10 if I'm lucky.

Not really. I upgrade over Win 7.

    Thank you.

I use Firefox on my Win 10 computer and Chrome on the other (although I am upgrading that computer to Win 10, as well.

I paid for AVG. It seems to be working. And Windows De3ender...which I am coming to believe in...seems to be set to poke its head in now and again to check before turning everday duties back over to AVG.

I'm OK with that but when time comes to renew AVG, I'll get rid of it.

Yeah...well that's been my experience, as well. What do you think it is? Were you getting 100's of hits while on Win 10? Why has it stopped detecting and eliminating cookies?

Has SAS stopped check as rigorously as it had been? As Internet sites, not loading cookies as regularly and frantically as they had been?

Is there a better program to get rid of Spyware and cookies?

You can use a couple of browser extensions:

Malwarebytes Browser Guard – Get this Extension for 🦊 Firefox (en-US)

Cookie AutoDelete – Get this Extension for 🦊 Firefox (en-US)

Reduction could be down to your browser settings:

I use Chrome, and I think browsers have become more descerning in that area.

    Question for all.

Is SAS best for deleting cookies compared to CCleaner and others ?

(Not questioning the OP's choice, just trying to get info on SAS)

No. SAS is not really good in deleting anything anymore. It is about as useful as Spybot.

So what would you (or anyone else) suggest for getting rid of cookies, pups and spyware?

Not always but it is much less effective then MBAM and better than nothing.

    FWIW.
