    Port Forwarding

Need to open up ports for an upcoming project (HTTPs, SSH, and RDP). I've added all these services in the "port forwarding" section of my network settings. However when scanning with netstat, I cannot find these ports enabled. Pinging directly with telnet I get a failed connection message.

My ISP (Cox) does not have these ports listed as blocked.

I have tried to connect via my laptop using RDP as a test, and as expected it says the server is unavailable. Is this a windows firewall issue maybe? I have checked the firewall logs for dropped connections in pfirewall but there is nothing there.

Can you elaborate on this please. Where exactly are you doing this?

I had to do this for HTTP and I set it up in my Router, a TP-Link. Nothing required in Firewall. You would access the external IP address with the port you have setup to be forwarded and the modem/router you setup to do the forwarding would then send it on to wherever you wanted it to go. In my case it's to an Apache server.

Yep, thats what i've had to do in the past.
Port forwarding only works if you tell the software where to go. As said, you have to add it to the old router. There should another section somewhere where you can actually add the machine and IP. Creating a static IP for the machine being used helps. Its normally the Computer name and local IP.
    Hope you fix problem

You set it on the router to a specific pc which should have static IP as a DHCP one may change. Then note you can't access it from the local network you need to use mobile or pc on another network

Ports will always appear to be closed even though you have created Port Forward rules (Telling the Router/Gateway IPTables how to handle specific traffic to bypass normal routing rules (Works like a HOV Lane on a freeway)). Outside traffic will not know which ports are listed inside the protected network since those routers do not have a clue. When traffic hits the Router/Gateway as requested from a IP request, the Router/Gateway will allow that traffic to use that “HOV lane” just for that specific traffic and will not allow other traffic to access to bypass Firewall rules.

As was true the last time I checked, my computer is invisible to the outside world, UpNp, ports and common files.
