    Unable to install ZoneAlarm (zafwSetupWeb_158_020_18208.exe)

I removed "ZoneAlarm Free Firewall 15.6.121.18102" because I wanted
to do a "clean" install of (zafwSetupWeb_158_020_18208.exe). The
problem is ... NOTHING happens when I try to execute either version.

IF I move the installer to C:\TEMP first, it will create a sub-folder called
{907A1104-E812-4b5c-959B-E4DAB37A96AB} and fill it up with 82 files
in 6 folders but THAT'S IT. NOTHING happens after that and the exe
    just gets up and leaves.

    ... would love some help.

    Thank you.

There is a removal tool ZoneAlarm Removal Tool Download - How to remove Zone Alarm? (Updated on 2019) . By running it it should get rid of any remnants of the bad uninstall. Do not run in safe mode.

    Hi Guys,

    Thanks for jumping in.

    Re: ZoneAlarm Removal Tool
Been there, done that, got the ... (clean.exe) ... BUT ...

"Your app doesn't work with Windows 10...
We block apps that could damage your PC or cause you to lose data.
This sometimes includes apps that worked with a previous version of
Windows. If an app won't open after you updated to Windows 10, it
    probably isn't compatible.

If the app is not a Microsoft app, we recommend checking online for
a new or updated version. The website of the app’s originator usually
    includes guidance about updating
    ".

I did the uninstall using Revo. I then searched for and deleted all files
and folders called CheckPoint and ZoneAlarm. I also ran a Reg Cleaner
and manually went thru the registry deleting most of the keys related
to CheckPoint and ZoneAlarm. Still NOTHING.

Yes I have CCLEANER x64 (5.61.7392) and ran the Reg Cleaner but
there was no mention of any ZA related items. I've also done a full
    MalwareBytes Scan.

    Still stuck.

    @Backspace -

    Go through this, please -

Safe Fix for 'This app can’t run on your PC' on Windows 10

Then download the software directly from CheckPoint and try again.

    Kindly post back.

    Thanks.

    Hi Compumind.

Well, I've done most of the things suggested by
Safe Fix for 'This app can’t run on your PC' on Windows 10
Many suggestions are pretty far out. Sort of ... "if you want to eat
the orange, you must first peel the apple. Anyway, I still get ...

    Unable to install ZoneAlarm (zafwSetupWeb_158_020_18208.exe)-clipboard02.gif

    ... when I try to run clean.exe.

I find it strange that a reputable company can't write a decent
uninstaller. Then they give us a garbage truck with no engine.
I don't mind pulling teeth out of the register if they would just
    tell me which ones.

I'll continue with the WindozWar or look for a simpler more user
    friendly firewall.

Try right clicking the clean.exe file, properties - general tab and untick the box for ' This file came from another computer .... ' then running it as administrator. Worth a try.

    Good Day, Fabler2

After wandering around the internet, I was able to replace Clean.exe v13.3.226.0
with Clean.exe v15.7.16.18062. This last one appears to work as expected. First,
the "are you sure?", followed by the cute little thermometer as it races to 100%
complete and then the request to re-boot.

Once again, I try to install "zafwSetupWeb_158_021_18211.exe". NOTHING
happens. All this in spite of my having used a larger hammer on the Registry.

Tomorrow, if https://forums.zonealarm.com/ comes back online, I'll give them a
try otherwise I'll do a total recovery from a 48 hour old clone.

Thanks for your suggestions. I'll try just about anything to beat the system.

    Backspace (how appropriate is that?)
