    Firewall is not working

Brink and z3r010 will be familiar with the look of this thread, they saw most of it in the EightForums but it was an unrelated part of another problem (FF addon) which they helped me fix. (And now I can post on this forum again. )

First let me see if my firewall is still messed up...and it is.

As of a few days ago I noticed that my Defender Firewall was not activated (as far as I remember it's always been activated). Previously I had downloaded & installed the latest free version of MBAM and it was a little wonky. I uninstalled it w/ Revo and afterwards my firewall was inaccessible.
I pressed the restore button but nothing happened. No reaction at all.

All 3 of those network options above have the same grayed-out, unusable toggle button...

I clicked on the button here and this warning came up...

That ^ blue Recommended Settings help dialog didn't work either.
    I tried this thing too...

Yesterday I got all those 1909 update things without a hitch, including 4 Malicious Tool downloads. So it's not affecting my WUs.
I did an sfc\ scannow and DISM restore health thingy and they both came up squeaky clean.

What I remember is that about a week or so ago I downloaded and installed the newest MBAM, wasn't impressed, uninstalled it with Revo, and noticed I had 4 different installs of it that Revo caught in its Traced Programs. I deleted those as well. Since then nothing new added or removed and later I noticed my Firewall messed up.

Anybody have any idea what I should be looking for?

    Hi Corona,

please open an elevated command prompt, then paste this

netsh firewall set opmode mode=ENABLE exceptions=enable

    Reboot

I rebooted and the firewall is still stuck.
Should I use the term "netsh advfirewall firewall" instead?

    Hi.
Please try the command as Hawkman asked, in an admin Command Prompt and not Powershell - that may be the problem.

If it doesn't resolve the issue, you could try this:
    1. Run ADWCleaner
If you're sure there's no infection and never was an infection, then you could skip straight to the repairs, as shown below.

If you still have issues with the firewall, then you might try an in-place repair.

    • Download the current ISO to your desktop.
    • Right-click the ISO and select MOUNT.
    • Double-click SETUP.EXE.
    • Tell Windows to keep files and apps.
    • It will do an in-place repair and will put everything in place as it should be.

Reference this tutorial; watch the video.
Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade
    .
If any questions, please ask. Good luck.

Simrick, I followed the advice of your avatar and used Macrium Reflect to zap my C drive back to October 25th. My Firewall is now working correctly again. But I bookmarked this thread and saved it for future reference. I've had MR7 for about a year now but never began using it to backup my drives till Oct. 3rd, and actually I was afraid of using it to restore my C drive, being that I've never done it before. But I plowed ahead and did it, praying. As far as I can tell I was successful. But thank you to all of you who responded to this thread.

PS... I thought PowerShell and CommandPrompt were the same things. Now you know how I get into the messes that I do.

Corona! Great job! Macrium is the BEST and I'm so glad you were using it. Can't tell you how many times it has saved my bacon. Happy to hear all is back to normal. Cheers!

Yeah, Macrium rocks. I've got the paid version so I can take advantage of Image Guard, to protect against ransomware.
