Last summer I was getting emails from the same scammer trying to convince me he had very personal pictures of me. He said he would post them on the net if I didn't send him $1400. I was insulted, those pics are worth a lot more than that!

    Hi there
All this just shows that people shouldn't just think because they have installed what they think is "the greatest and best" A/V prrogram or malware / spyware protection that they are fully protected,

It's scams like these and a load of similar that really cause problems for the vast majority of people these days.

USE BRAIN, and never give out personal info on public websites especially on those social media "thingey's" --I never use those myself but I suppose these days I'm in that 0.01% of the population who doesn't. This type of info is then used to do all sorts of things from money laundering, identity theft e.g false passport obtaining which then goes into people smuggling rings for moving illegal immigrants around etc to plain money theft e.g payments to fake "website" accounts and so on.

If people reading this section on the Forum spent even a quarter of the effort they pursue with almost evangelical zeal of protecting their computers via (usually) 3rd party protection programs which really do no better than the standard WD in Windows 10 and often worse - with performance problems too-- on understanding and preventing these sorts of scams which software can't protect against they might save themselves a lot of money (and in some cases - serious Jail time) too.

Note of course I'm not referring to "Professional" computer security stuff that corporate, Office Lans, and cloud servers need --different problems there and they need another whole different layer of security. These remarks are intended for Home and small office users only, not Enterprise systems.

    Cheers
