Slow startup 100% usage and other issues (given own thread)

some fabulous assistance being shown here which I am greatly in need of. I've copied many of the posts on here to go through in detail as I'm still having issues seemingly after the latest W10 update which failed on me but keeps trying to redo it.

Boot up from start now takes for ever, certainly minutes and any desktop icon is so low to load.
I also now get 100% usage of my Hard : drive randomly so something is triggering the drive off.
I'll have a read through of this post and if I still need some help I'll start a new post.
    Sorry for the diversion.
    Thanks.

    Malwarebytes' scanner
If this program is already installed: Skip the installation and run only the scan!
Download and install: Please download Malwarebytes' scanner to your desktop.

    • Double-click mb3-setup-consumer-3.x.x.xxxx and follow the prompts to install the program.
    • Click Finish.
    • On the Dashboard, click the 'Check for Updates' button.
    • After the update completes, click the 'Scan Now' button.
    • A Threat Scan will begin. Please allow it to progress through the scanning process.
    • When the scan is complete, if there have been detections, click Quarantines Selected button to allow the program to clean what was detected.
    • In most cases, a restart will be required.
    • Wait for the prompt to restart the computer to appear, then click on Yes.

How to get logs: (Export log to save as txt)

    • After the restart once you are back at your desktop, open Malwarebytes once more.
    • Click on the Reports tab > Scan Report. (if you have done more than one scan in the past, select the most recent that shows the Date and time of the scan just performed. Press View Report button.
    • Click 'Export'.
    • Click 'Text file (*.txt)'
    • In the Save File dialog box which appears, click on Desktop.
    • In the File name: box type a name for your scan log.
    • A message box named 'File Saved' should appear stating "Your file has been successfully exported".
    • Click Ok
    • Find the log on your Desktop and Attach that saved log to your next reply.

My problems started when Cumulative update Ver. 1809 failed to update. Feature update Ver. 1809 did update.
That's where I am stuck every time I try to do the update it fails.
Also my boot time is very long, it took 43 mins to boot up after the MWB scan???

Not all desktop icons work and those that do take 2-3 mins to react.

Temporarily disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware protection - instructions here.

    • Please visit the ESET Online Scanner website
    • Click the SCAN NOW button to download the esetonlinescanner_enu.exe file to the Desktop
    • Double click esetonlinescanner_enu.exe. Accept the Terms of Use
    • Select Enable detection of potentially unwanted applications
    • In Advanced Settings: make sure that Clean threats automatically is unchecked
    • And Enable detection of potentially unsafe applications, Enable detection of suspicious applications, Scan archives, and Enable Anti-Stealth technology are all checked.
    • Click Scan
    • The program will begin to download it's virus database. The speed may vary depending on your Internet connection.
    • When completed, the program will begin to scan. This may take several hours. Please, be patient.
    • Do not do anything on your machine as it may interrupt the scan.
    • When completed it'll show a list of "Threats found", click beneath it on Save to text file.... and save it as ESET log.txt on your Desktop.
    • Then click Do not clean. Place a checkmark at Delete application's data on close, click Finish and close the program.
    • Please copy and paste the log it generated (the one you just saved on your Desktop) here.

Don't forget to re-enable previously switched-off protection software!

    Hello Gents.
    I've installed and run ESET.
A couple of questions, the task bar icon for eset keeps working on update and never completes?
    First scan found 9 concerns.
When I try to save the file to desktop I don't seem to be able to save it there?
I ran a 2nd scan and this one declared no virus found, all nice and clean, but the same save problem happened again.

I get my save screen up, I choose desktop and press SAVE to the already loaded name which is [*.txt]. when I try to save this nothing appears to happen. Am I supposed to name it differently to that preloaded one?

Also my pc still runs very slowly with random 100% hdd usage moments., but it is more stable keeping the desktop icons on show and selectable.
Anyone got any further help available please.

Perform a clean boot state to find out if any one of startup programs or services causing the problem.

Cheers Freebooter just realised that it was the way the file to save was displayed ie there was no name showing only the file type eg *.txt which I mistook for it's name so without me adding a name it would not save.
I now have done a save to desktop but it doesn't show quite what I expected, see following>>>
    02/11/2019 16:18:33
    Files scanned: 13244
    Infected files: 0
    Cleaned threats: 0

    Scan status: Finished
