I can't see (Virus & Threat Protection) Under my Windows 10 Security

I bought my DELL Inspiron in 2018. It came with 1-year McAfee Subscription. I didn't pay any attention to Windows Security during the past, however, and when I received notification from McAfee informing me that my current subscription is almost due to expire, I've chatted to a colleague of mine and he assure me that "there's no need for antivirus since Win-10 security is decent and OK". I uninstalled McAfee immediately, but when I went to Windows Security Dash (Security at Glance) I couldn't find that option that should read (Virus & Threat Protection) . When I search for it, I can see the "black" logo, but upon clicking on it (or even when I Righ-click on any folder and try to scan using Windows Defender), a pop-on message that read (your IT administrator has limited access to some areas of this app and the item you tried to access is not available). I am the administrator of this laptop and it's not company-customized, moreover, I've contacted the Windows support team, who tried to update the current version of the Windows but nothing seems helpful. See attachment? Any Help

It seems like McAfee (somehow) managed to block my default Windows protection in order to force users to purchase (renew) their product?

I've tried everything, from Regedit, gpedit, re0installing McAfee completely, net user administrator /active:yes and everything recommended, but still nothing appears under Security Dash? Which's abnormal?

I've REINSTALLED McAfee again, I've checked other Windows-10 devices at work and all of them show the icon that reads (Virus & Threat Protection) under Security at a glance, however, I can't see it. Moreover, if I go under : Windows Security/ Settings/ Manage Providers, it read under Antivirus (no provider) and under firewall (McAfee ON/ WinDef OFF).

    Something not right?

    Please help!

You could try the McAfee removal tool. Most AV providers also offer a tool to help with complete removal.
McAfee Removal Tool - McAfee Uninstaller

If you search for your error message
your IT administrator has limited access to some areas of this app and the item you tried to access is not available
you will find relevant threads which may help e.g:

Thanks, I've explored all of these options already. As you can see, most of those (Solutions) are not matching my situation sinde I DON"T HAVE THE ICON THAT READ (VIRUS & THREAT PROTECTION), It doesn't exist in my Dell at all?? Others may have the same error message but you can see (see attachment as per on solution) the Icon under the Security Dash, which I don't have (Like my WIn Defender is incomplete or McAfee did something to block it?)

As you can see, others already have the VIRUS AND THREAT PROTECTION ICON, while I don't??

Please confirm you have used the removal tool.

If you have, search the registry for anything related to Mcafee.

I did removed everything related to McAfee. I can't explain why I can't see the Virus & Threat Protection yet? Could it be a faulty Win10? I am confused. Under my Security at a glance I only see other elements except Virus & Threat Protection.

    Hey guys,

I've chatted (for the second time) to one of the MS technicians. Unfortunately, Microsoft needs to FORMAT my Windows10 and reinstall a new one from scratch, I've been asked to back-up all data as all will gone once the new Win10 installed.

Sounds like no peaceful version to sort this dilemma.

After exhausting all potential solution and your valuable support and help (thanks all ) this is gonna be the ultimate way to ensure full capacity and protection by Windows Defender.

Thank you all ...... God bless.

PS: Will post results after New Windows 10 installed by Microsoft!!

Hi, if you've checked your registry and made sure there's no remnant of your previous AV, then try an in-place upgrade repair install first.. which keeps all progs and data - you need an iso of your current build to do that (or a bootable disk). Log in and run setup.exe. Tutorial available.

    Thanks,

I am not a tech guy, but if I understood you well, I did search under the RegEdit and these are the files that hit when I searched for "McAfee" under Edit/Find

Do you advise to delete these from the register? Do you think it's the McAfee causing this issue of disappearing of Virus & Treat Protection and not a faulty WIndows10 version? Any possible troubles could be caused if deleting these files?

Hi, assuming you've nothing related to McAfee installed, and you have run the Mcafee uninstall tool referred to above, then these should be safe to remove.

You can back up your registry before you start just to be sure, or update your disk image- or just those specific keys- just in case.

Note that some refer to specific file or folders- use file explorer to check there's nothing there- if there is, delete it.

Note McAfee Webadvisor is probably a separate product- if so, check if you can uninstall it.
