ever since I removed the Windows.old folder.
strange. I ran windows update troubleshooter, it came back with an error of some sort, corrupt files..
I was just trying to gain more space on OS drive is how all this came to happen..

Okay, got everything fixed except for windows defender, it will not activate...
Have you run any program like O&OSU10 (O&OShutUp10) to disable some stuff? Defender is one of the items you can disable there.
See if Windows Security Service is running in services.msc. If not there then read this post, see if it helps you: Windows Defender disabled and is unable to start. Substitute Window3s Security Service for Windows Defender Service since MS has renamed it recently.
O&OSU10 (O&OShutUp10) -------no I haven't.
Windows security service is running, set to manual, and I can not change anything , it is greyed out...
I will investigate your provided link and get back...

I gave up after trying many different 'fixes' suggested. Loaded Avast Free for now so I am protected. Strangely, Windows Defender is still updating virus definitions after the Avast install...whatever...
