Since about recently, Windows Defender started quietly killing my backup script. When I went to check, it gave me this:
This is not a "dangerous and executes commands from an attacker", this is the script that I wrote myself that closes Outlook and does the backup of its file.
So I even tried to exclude that folder, but it didn't help:
Aside from disabling Defender, how do I make it work?
Have you tried adding the script file as an exclusion on Windows Defender? I know excluding the folder should also include contained files but this is Windoze.

My guess is that it also doesn't like my scheduled task to run it. The question is how do I add it to the excluded locations?
I still would have excluded the file as that's a pretty easy test, redundant or not. Another question comes to mind, how is this script triggered? Are you scheduling the script to run from the task scheduler?
If so I believe this may be a boundary violation and that's why Windows considers it to be a threat. As a test, try removing it from the task scheduler and running it manually. Then you will know for certain.
Well, of course it's in the task scheduler. It's a backup script that is supposed to run at night at 4 AM. How else would I set it? And of course I will try to add it as a file exception and see if it runs. I just can't check it until tomorrow. Like you said, it's windowz. No one knows when it will fail.
Otherwise, it's so annoying. I can't even set up a task without cross some "boundary restrictions." Are you kidding me, Micrsofot?
I must apologize because I can't direct you much further, however; there are many other individuals here who are the experts. My knowledge of Windows is limited, I'm more familiar with the hardware end. At least I gave you some things to consider.

When I pointed this defender malfunction (and many others) out, a crowd of sheep started screaming "defender is the best, four legs good, two legs bad." The only way to overcome is imo installing some different antivirus and disable defender completely, personally I prefer Avira Free + BGP Killer, playing with defender is a waste of time.
No reason. Exceptions/exclusions must work, otherwise the AV is useless. User and his decision is the highest instance, not some fools at MS.Post your script on here for review.

Pity really even if another av installed wd is still very much a pest with any changing of default settings account protection/..... boom all trigger alert after alert on restart/...
