WD New Version - Change of Scan behaviour?

Does the new version of WD (4.18.xxxx) change the behaviour of Quick Scan..?

Quick Scan in the previous version used to scan about 25,000 files in around 8 minutes. The new version only scans about 50 files is less than 2 minutes.

    Is this normal...?

Try it again (and again). There's more to this that just what version of WD you have. There seems to something more complicated going on. Read the whole of this thread:

Windows defender fast scan on w10 v1903

I have just run a quick scan twice in a row and got two quite different times/numbers.

    2nd run:

This was in 1903 with the latest antimalware platform.

Apparently others are seeing this 'minimal' scan too. It seems to be related to how recent your virus definitions are. Anything newer than 1.301.1600.0 seems to have this behaviour.

I've just updated mine and now its scans just 90 files.

Problem seems to have been in a buggy definitions.

Update 1.301.1712.0 resolves the issue, therefore I will close this Thread as Solved.

    Thanks Bree for your reply.

That's correct. MS say it was fixed in definitions 1.301.1684.0 and later.

Microsoft has told BleepingComputer that the issue has now been resolved. It turns out it was an issue in the definitions and has been resolved in "Security Intelligence Update for Windows Defender Antivirus - KB2267602 (Version 1.301.1684.0)".
