Got a weird issue with Windows 10 Defender Antivirus:
Windows 10 Defender scans for less than 15 seconds and then finishes?
Does not matter if quick scan or full scan...total of about 15 files scanned for each...
Any ideas?

It's not just you. I had a quick scan run this morning at 9.30am, at that time on virus definition version 1.301.1600.0. It lasted several mins & scanned thousands of files as usual. Then I saw a thread on another forum about this so I updated WD and ran a quick scan and it lasted 13 secs and scanned just 50 files, same when a full scan runs. It's now up to version 1.301.1622.0 and the problem still persists. It would seem a WD virus definition update after 1.301.1600.0 is the cause. Hopefully MS find what they broke and fix it soon.

Only had the one def update this morning, so far. Wow! Scan barely started before it finished. Defs were received when I first turned the machine this morning, at 5:14am, ET. A scheduled scan occurred immediately after.
Just ran a manual Quick scan and took 9 seconds and 18 files.
Just ran a FULL scan, same defs. First time for a FULL in a long while. Either this is very, very efficient, or something is amiss.

The bug is entirely the fault of the virus definitions.
It has nothing to do with the version of Defender, or even Windows 10 come to that. Exactly the same problem is seen in Windows 7 with Microsoft Security Essentials.
After updating the virus definitions to 1.301.1645.0 (MSE and Defender use the same definition files) you can see here that a Quick scan has scanned just 44 files!
Here's the same 'before and after' Quick Scan test on a different W7/MSE machine.
A subsequent Full Scan on this machine also only checked 50 items.

I got the same ultra-quick scan with both definitions received today. Just check and nothing new than .1645.
I just did a quick scan and it scanned 5 files in 6 seconds and was finished.
