Windows 10 Defender Full Virus Scan- CPU Usage 100%

About a few months ago, i noticed this. Whenever i do a full scan of my computer, the cpu would hit 100% and stay 100%. Sometimes it might drop to 95% or 90% but then it immediately goes back to 100%. The issue here is when this happens, my laptop is basically unusable. Thus many chrome windows are frozen or lag so bad that im concerned about it. Previously when i did virus full scans, i could do other things with no issue. Does anyone know why i have this issue?

I am concerned because the CPU is 100% usage and it sounds like the computer is using lot of processing power where im concerned if my computer could turn off or something like that when using it.

Does anyone know how to fix this issue? I don't know how this happened because a while back, there was no issue like this.

Any scan of the system is going to take over resources. There is no need to run a full scan unless you got infected. The scan will run while the system is idle and you really need to run only the Quick Scan if it has not ran for more than every 7 to 14 days.

High CPU usage has been encountered before: this thread (older) refers to dealing with a corrupt database file, but it's a bit long.

There are other such threads if you search for (e.g.)

In the past, sometimes it's proved necessary to exclude a folder:

Hey there. Well the thing is my laptop was not like this before when it did full scan. I say this happened about months ago.

Previously it never used up to even 70% max of cpu usage when doing a full scan.

Hi, you will need to do some investigation, I'm afraid, as we do not have access to your PC. Please see information above with possible causes for you to investigate.
