    SpyBot

    Hello,
On occasions I ran "SpyBot" program. The findings results are cookies and some registry entries - they all are Green color (Registry).
How much reliable is it ?
Normally I run once a day "CCleaner"
    Answers will be appreciated.
    Thanks

Registry cleaners are extremely powerful applications and their potential for harming your OS far outweighs any small potential for improving your computer's performance.

There are a number of them available and some are more safe than others. Keep in mind that no two registry cleaners work entirely the same way. Each vendor uses different criteria as to what constitutes a "bad" entry. One cleaner may find entries on your system that will not cause a problem when removed, another may not find the same entries, and still another may want to remove entries required for a program to work. Without research into what the registry entry selected for deletion is, a registry cleaner can end up being an automated method to cause problems with the registry.

For routine use by those not familiar with the registry, the benefits to your computer are negligible while the potential risks are great.

I suggest to remove the program now, via Add or Remove programs.

Spybot is old and can give massive problems as it can add thousands of entries to the host file

SpyBot S&D. Just uninstall it. I did maybe 10 years ago when it got intrusive and put stuff in to Windows Startup, one reason has been mentioned.
CCleaner I have uninstalled for broadly the same reasons, maybe 6 years ago.

Trivial fiddling with these applications is wasted effort in doing nothing, about the only likely effect is to slow up your PC or damage the Registry depending on their settings.

Spybot S&D ? WOW ! that's a blast from the past. Anyone remember that other dangerous 'tool' from that era, HijackThis ?

and what about dialup malware, that would switch your number from 0800 to a premium £1/min line.

    Happy days...

I use AdWCleaner & MalwareBytes to augment Defender. I only use them for offline scans.

    @Motim -

    Spybot? Are you serious?

Please cleanly remove that from your system.

MBAM Free. (I use it on demand.)
SuperAntiSpyware. (I use it on demand.)

Windows Defender or Norton Security for your AV/Firewall.

CCleaner is not for the novice. Needs just a bit of study.

What Does CCleaner Do, and Should You Use It?

    Hope this helps.
