    I think you fixed it.

.. plus I can't avoid that horrible SimSun font many complain about when pasting things from the net e.g.
Compatible it may be, but there are a couple of things about Writer that annoy me- plus those ads (which I could close automatically if I wished) - but given the others, I'd rather use a different free Office suite.
It hasn't come back yet. I'm gonna give it a few more days before marking this as resolved, just in case. It never came up very often so I am hesitant to jump to conclusions. But so far so good. Thanks, dalchina. I am thinking you got it. I'll be back. PS: Do you recommend any better free text editors aside from Open Office or Google Docs? I was looking for something I could use to write offline. Something lightweight. If you fixed this, major props. You may have hit the nail on the head here.

Very good- however there are more things I dislike about WPS Office, in particular its failure to render text quoted from web sources properly. They keep changing Writer, making it quite distracting now, I find- it now seems to open with 3 tabs present already. There was a long period when it opened displaying a templates page.

First, here's a bit of tenforums and Libre Office:

Now here's that text in WPS Writer:

Note the use of Simsun font in the para 1. Click...

So Libre Office is one contender: Softmaker Office is one I've tried- it's ok, but weird if you try to use it as default and then create a new rtf document, say. Plus I dislike its red icons for documents!

It's a long time since I tried Open Office.

Ive just switched to LibreOffice after using Openoffice for a few years. After reading several LibreOffice reviews, It seems to be very popular. It may be because thy say it is very well supported..more updates etc. So far so good. LibreOffice seems pretty much the same. If I have any issues I'll go back to Openoffice but no problems whatsoever so far
