tried Malwarebytes Premium v3.8.3
- it didn't detect anything - the darned thing is still there..
- any other suggestions?
You could try uninstalling what you installed- see if it's gone- then start the reinstall (but don't complete it) and make sure there's no check box for something 'extra'.
What is the source of your driver package? How did you update it? Did you use a driver updater tool?
And do you need to update it?
If it's truly software, I would try Revo-Uninstaller. If it's an actual Virus I would use HitmanPro.
There are lots of guides on how to deal with this.

Why not use Google and try some things suggested?

This seems to be a non-trivial thing to remove, so tools like Revo - even if you can find a starting point- and only the Pro version supports forced uninstall- may not succeed.
Do you have a disk image created before this appeared? If so, restore the disk image.
Perhaps a restore point might help, but this could be designed to circumvent that.
